Next Generation – Broadband for Sustainable Development (NG-BSD) Program

Next Generation – Broadband for Sustainable Development Programme focusses on the provision of highspeed broadband and voice services in unserved and under-served areas. This programme is being executed in areas where basic telephony and data services were provided through USF Projects.

1. NG-BSD/LOT22-SHIKARPUR/2020

NG-BSD Shikarpur Lot aims to provide coverage to Unserved/Underserved mauzas in the districts of Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Kashmore. A total of 271 mauzas are to be provided Broadband Internet Services. Out of these, 26 mauzas are unserved with regards to voice telephony services and hence will be provided both Voice as well as Broadband Internet Services, whereas 245 underserved mauzas are being targeted for provision of Broadband Internet Services.

 Universal Service Fund and Pakistan Mobile Communications Ltd. (JAZZ) entered in the contract to provide basic telephony and data services to the mass population in un/under-served areas of NG-BSD Shikarpur Lot on 22nd April 2021.

2. NG-BSD/Lot7- DG Khan/2019

NG-BSD DG Khan lot aims to provide coverage to unserved mauzas in districts of Dera Ghazi Khan and Layyah. A total of 819 mauzas are to be provided Broadband Internet Services. Out of these, 41 mauzas are unserved regards voice telephony services and hence will be provided both Voice as well as Broadband Internet Services 

Universal Service Fund and PMCL(JAZZ) entered in the contract to provide basic telephony and data services to the mass population in un-served areas of NG-BSD DG Khan Lot on December 13, 2019.

NG-BSD for National Highways & Motorways

NG-BSD for NHs & MWs is first of its kind initiative of USF whereby the unserved patches on the National Highways and Motorways are being provided with voice and broadband data services. This programme is different from other coverage projects as the targets are not the residents but the commuters.  Another unique feature is National Roaming whereby a commuter will get continuous services in USF served areas, irrespective of their subscribed networks. USF is committed and will continue to work towards achieving the mission of broadband penetration across the country.

1. NG-BSD/ Lot6-NH&MW-M5/2021

This project aims to provide coverage to M5 (Multan-Sukkur). The total length of un/underserved road segments is 78.85 KMs and Motorway passes through five districts of Punjab and Sindh, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kashmore, Ghotki and Sukkur.

 Universal Service Fund and PMCL Pakistan entered in the contract to provide voice and high-speed broadband internet services to the un/underserved road segments of NG-BSD NH&MW-M3 on 25th October 2021.
