Mobile Gender Gap In Pakistan

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) is the national focal Ministry and enabling arm of the Government of Pakistan for planning, coordinating and directing efforts to initiate and launch Information Technology and Telecommunications programs and projects aimed at economic development of the country.
Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif son of (late) Mian Muhammad Sharif graduated from Government College, Lahore with a distinction. He belongs to a distinguished business family of Pakistan. He served as President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry during 1985.Later, he joined active politics and served as Member, Punjab Assembly during 1988-90 and as Member, National Assembly during 1990-93. He became Member of Punjab Assembly for the third term in 1997 and was elected as Chief Minister of the province of Punjab and functioned till 1999. He played a leading role in the restoration of democracy in the country and was elected unopposed as Member, Punjab Assembly for a fourth time in 2008, and served as Chief Minister Punjab for the second time (from June 2008 to March 2013). In the general elections held in May 2013, he was elected as Chief Minister of Punjab for the third time. From 2018 to April 2022, Shehbaz Sharif served as the leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan. He was nominated as Prime Minister of Pakistan on April 11, 2022 till 9th August 2023 as joint candidate of PDM. He was again re-elected Prime Minister of Pakistan on March 3, 2024 till date, after general elections of February 2024.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja is the Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunications and core member of Prime Minister’s economic team. She is also member of National Assembly of Pakistan (MNA) for the third consecutive term. She is a graduate of LUMS and Master from University of Warwick, UK. In her early career, she served as a faculty member for 6 years in International Relations and Political Science at LUMS (one of the leading universities of Pakistan). Ms. Khawaja is currently leading country’s digitization and E-Governance Plan being the Minister of State for IT & Telecom. She is also leading country’s IT export growth Plan to reach the mark of USD 25 billion in next 5 years. Through prioritizing Digital Governance and country’s tech sector branding internationally, she is leading Digital Pakistan and Techdestination Pakistan campaigns. Currently, major reforms for Telecom Sector and IT Sector, led by her office, are underway to attract Foreign Direct Investment in the country and to showcase Pakistan as next Tech Destination in Global arena.She has represented Pakistan at a number of International Platform in various capacities. Mainly World Economic Forum, Switzerland; World Political Parties Dialogue, China; Young Parliamentarians Forum, Netherlands; Pakistan Legislators Dialogue Forum, USA and many others.
Mr. Zarrar Hasham Khan is currently working as Federal Secretary, Ministry of information Technology and Telecommunication. Previously he served as Group Chief Business Solutions Officer at Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited. Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited is the national telecommunications carrier and the largest integrated Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Company of Pakistan. Mr. Zarrar worked for 11 years in STC-Kuwait (A Saudi Telecom Group Company) as Chief Technology Officer where he was responsible for defining strategy and overseeing its execution for the fixed, mobile and ICT infrastructure. Additionally, in that role, he also spearheaded one of the largest commercial deployments of 5G services in the world in 2019. In his last 20+ years of experience, Mr. Zarrar has had vast local and international experience in the investment banking domain as well as with leading telecom service providers including Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Mobilink GSM – PMCL (currently known as Jazz Pakistan), etc. He is a seasoned professional with planning and execution experience in Strategy Development, Technology Operations, Governance, Risk & Control, Customer Experience Management and Product Development.
